The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was established in the year 1999 to provide quality technical education to aspiring Engineers. The department offers UG program with an intake of 120 students, PG program in VLSI Design and Embedded system with an intake of 18 students and a Ph.D program. The field of Electronics and Communication Engineering encompasses a broad spectrum of technical areas, including Analog and Digital systems, Microelectronics, Photonics, Electromagnetic Fields, Control Systems, Communication systems, VLSI and Embedded Systems, IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Signal processing, Power Electronics, Microwaves and Antenna etc. ECE Engineers invent new technological innovations in a range of fields, from Robotics, Agritech, nanotechnology to biotechnology, design high-profile technologies and products, including Medical Devices, Smart Phones, Tablets, Computers, Wireless networks, Optical networks, 3D television and High Fidelity Audio. They also find innovative ways to use electricity, electrons, electrical and magnetic phenomena (like radio waves and signals) and communication technologies to make people’s lives better.

  4. M.Tech- VLSI Design and Embedded Systems -2 Years
    • Program Overview
    • M.Tech in VLSI Design & Embedded System or Master of Technology in VLSI Design & Embedded System are postgraduate degrees from VLSI Design. The course covers device and circuit concepts in VLSI design with associated VLSI tools and hardware, microcontrollers, embedded systems, DSPs and their applications. VLSI Design & Embedded Systems Group faces R&D and design problems and develops their solutions in VLSI circuits for embedded systems and ubiquitous computing applications. These areas are embedded systems design, power electronics, wireless networks, signal processing, biomedical electronics, electronic instruments, and audio and speech processing.

    ECE Research Centre was started in the year 2008, which offers Ph.D. Program in both part time and full time. The research centre is affiliated to VTU and the research facility is available for research scholars to carry out research in their research area of interest. Dr Yogesh G S is the research coordinator, there are 13 research scholars pursuing PhD. Research scholars are encouraged to take up interdisciplinary research in various domains such as Signal and Image Processing, Antennas, Wireless Sensors Network, Control system, VLSI, Communication, Bio-medical Signal Processing, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Faculty and students are encouraged to publish technical papers and also encouraged to submit research proposals in govt agencies such as DRDO, DST, SERB, ISRO etc. The research centre has been granted with the funding of 10L from VGST and also 9.5L from LRDE DRDO to carry out the research activities.

Program Specific Outcomes:

PSO1: To conceptualize, model, design, simulate, analyse, develop, test, and validate computing systems and solve technical problems arising in the field of Computer Science & Engineering.

PSO2: To specialize in the sub-areas of Computer Science and Engineering such as Cloud Computing, Robotic Process Automation, Cyber Security, Big data Analytics, User Interface Design and IOT to meet industry requirements.

PSO3: To build innovative solutions to meet the demands of the industry using appropriate tools and techniques.


  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
