The Department of Engineering Chemistry came into existence along with the establishment of the institution in the year 1999. The Department is currently headed by Dr. Manjunatha.M and has a team of highly experienced, talented and dedicated faculty members of whom 3 are doctorates and others are pursuing their Ph.D from various reputed universities. The department is involved in teaching Engineering Chemistry theory and Engineering Chemistry laboratory courses for the first year B.E students of all disciplines and plays a vital role in laying the strongest foundation to their engineering education.

The department has research center recognized by Visvesvaraya Technological University with well-established facilities to promote both sponsored & academic research and consultancy activities in various fields of Applied Chemistry like Polymer nanocomposites, medicinal chemistry, non materials, biocatalysts, coordination chemistry, water treatment and smart materials. Research grants to the tune of more than 20 lakh rupees funded by leading funding agencies have been executed.

Program Outcomes:

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

  8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

  9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

  10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

  11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

  12. Life -long learning: Recognize the need for and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life -long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

The Department of Basic Sciences aspires to be a globally acclaimed Centre for Basic Sciences education and research and fosters academic and career success of students through holistic development

Our purpose at the department is to impart knowledge of basic sciences for future graduates of engineering. We are committed to innovation, creativity, and excellence in our teaching, learning, and research. We inspire integrity, teamwork, critical thinking, personal development, and ethics in our students and lay the foundation for lifelong learning. We serve the scientific, technological, economic, and societal developmental needs of our communities

HoD’s Message

Our department is doing extremely well with regards to the infrastructure and teaching methods. The teaching staff of my department comprises a group of successful people with Ph.D degrees as well as accomplishments in Research and Teaching.

We have a very favourable faculty-to-student ratio, which encourages close contact between students and their faculty mentors. This allows the faculty to give personalized attention to the academic progress of students. Our courses are designed to provide students the knowledge of Engineering & Applied Chemistry, and also introduce them to various experimental skills. The subject has become as an essential part of the curriculum for all the branches of Engineering.
